Puromycin Dihydrochloride is an aminoglycoside antibiotic that is isolated from Streptomyces alboniger. Puromycin works by inhibiting peptidyl transfer on both prokaryotic and eukaryotic ribosomes; resistance is conferred by the expression of the pac gene. It is used for selective antibiotic agent for cell culture systems, selection of mammalian cell lines, studies of regulatory mechanisms which control specific gene functions during cell differentiation and more.
